This is certainly one of the most unique and recognizable guitar designs of all time! To produce this masterpiece, Gibson secured the services of legendary automobile designer Ray Dietrich (Lincoln, Packard). He based his design on car tail-fins of the time, as well as the previously released Gibson Explorer. The foundation of this beast is a Mahogany, neck-through design with the headstock carefully set to 14 degrees; this insures a straight string trajectory resulting in practically no loss of string vibration between the nut and tuners, creating superior sustain. The craftsmanship is masterful; a true engineering marvel. Unfortunately, this beauty was produced for less than 2 years and in very limited quantities. Gibson was forced to abandon this design when Fender asserted that it infringed upon the copyright design of the Jazzmaster and Jaguar. This example is all original, except for the chrome pickguard, and is in very good condition with absolutely no breaks or cracks. The finish is stunning with minimal checking. And the tone… well, close your eyes and think of Johnny Winter. The original hard case is included.
